At the heart of the Grunobuurt neighborhood in Groningen, we have designed the residential building Tractie. Its prominent location along the green axis and water of Hoornsediep makes it a beautiful place to live. Our main goal for the design was to create a sense of joy and pleasure in living.
To achieve this, we developed a clear and efficient structural plan for the building. The façade features a calm pattern of vertically oriented openings and rich Gronings detailing, resulting in a building with a strong and unique character. The monumentality of the façade is a defining feature of Tractie.

Cascading kindness
We designed the building to vary in height in a stepped pattern, ranging from three to seven floors, with the highest point located where the surrounding buildings are lowest. This design principle ensures a pleasant neighborhood on an urban planning level.

Guarantee living pleasure
Tractie is framed by the green square and water of Hoornsediep, providing residents with an open view. We also created a subtle transition between public and private space with hedges and Delftse sidewalks, making neighborly interactions easier.
A key feature of Tractie is the walkway on the second floor that runs along the entire façade. This creates outdoor spaces that span the entire width of each apartment, providing a unique living experience.
